How to use this calculator
- Enter your current monthly Social Security benefit before Medicare. It is the "before deductions" amount on your 2026 COLA notice or in your my Social Security account.
- Pick a 2027 COLA. Until SSA announces the real number on October 14, choose a forecast (3.4%–3.6%) or type your own.
- Tell us whether Medicare Part B is taken out of your check. The standard 2027 premium is pre-filled; if you pay an income-related premium (IRMAA), enter your own.
- Optionally choose the day of the month you were born to see when your first check with the raise arrives.
How the 2027 estimate is calculated
We follow Social Security's rounding rules from 20 CFR 404.313 (opens in a new tab) and POMS RS 00601.020 (opens in a new tab), and do all math in whole cents so there are no rounding surprises:
- New benefit = current benefit × (1 + COLA), rounded down to the next lower 10 cents.
- Subtract the Part B premium (if it is taken from your check).
- Round down to the next lower whole dollar. That is the amount deposited.
Your 2026 deposit is figured the same way using the 2026 standard premium of $202.90, so you can see how much more (or less) will actually land in your account.
Worked example
A $2,000.00 benefit with a 3.5% COLA becomes $2,070.00. Subtract the projected 2027 Part B premium of $209.50 and you get $1,860.50, which rounds down to a $1,860 deposit. In 2026 the same person receives $2,000.00 − $202.90 = $1,797.10, or $1,797. The net raise is $63 a month, even though the gross raise is $70, because the Part B premium also goes up.
Why your SSA letter may differ slightly
Social Security applies the COLA to your primary insurance amount (PIA), the benefit before any early retirement or other reductions, and then reapplies those reductions. Applying the COLA to the amount you receive is a close approximation, usually within a few cents and at most about $1. Tax withholding, Medicare Part D premiums and other deductions are not included. Your official COLA notice, usually available in my Social Security in late November or December, is the final word.
2027 COLA: forecasts vs. official figure
The COLA equals the increase in the average CPI-W for July, August and September 2026 over the same months of 2025 (average 317.265), rounded to the nearest 0.1%. For reference, the 2026 COLA was 2.8%.
| Source | 2027 COLA | Status |
|---|---|---|
| CRFB | 3.4% | Forecast |
| The Senior Citizens League (opens in a new tab) | 3.5% | Forecast |
| AARP (opens in a new tab) | 3.6% | Forecast |
The September 2026 CPI comes out October 14, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. ET; SSA is expected to announce the COLA the same day.
Medicare Part B premium in 2027
The standard Part B premium is $202.90 a month in 2026. For 2027 the Medicare Trustees Report projects $209.50 Projected. CMS has not announced the real figure yet; it is expected in November. If the premium increase is larger than your COLA raise, the "hold-harmless" rule usually protects your net check, and the calculator will tell you.
